TLDR M30 is a promising treatment for preventing hair loss during chemotherapy.
The study from 2019 investigated the effectiveness of a novel antioxidant multi-target iron chelator, M30, in preventing chemotherapy-induced alopecia in mice. The research involved C57BL/6 mice treated with cyclophosphamide to induce hair loss, which were then administered M30. Results showed that M30 enhanced hair growth and prevented the abnormal hair changes typically caused by cyclophosphamide. Gene expression profiles from skin biopsies identified five key genes (Tnfrsf19, Ercc2, Lama5, Ctsl, and Per1) associated with various aspects of hair growth and follicle development that were affected by the treatment. The study concluded that M30 is a promising therapy for preventing hair loss caused by chemotherapy and highlighted the potential role of the identified genes in hair cycle regulation and follicle maturation.
