TLDR Mesotherapy for hair loss can cause temporary forehead swelling.
This multicenter retrospective study reports 14 cases of frontal edema resulting from mesotherapy for androgenetic alopecia (AGA) treatment. The edema typically appeared within the first two sessions and lasted between 1 and 4 days, resolving favorably with local cold compresses. Lidocaine was used as the anesthetic in all cases, and minoxidil and dutasteride might also contribute to the edema. This study is the largest case series on this specific side effect, providing valuable information for clinicians performing mesotherapy. Dermatologists should be aware of this potential adverse effect, as it can significantly impact patients.
