TLDR The formulated gel is a promising treatment for alopecia areata.
The study formulated and evaluated six topical gels containing Minoxidil and Tofacitinib citrate for treating alopecia areata. The gels were characterized for various parameters, including pH, viscosity, spreadibility, drug content, in vitro drug release, and stability. Formulation F5 was identified as the optimized gel, showing the best results with a drug release of 94.22% for Minoxidil and 93.62% for Tofacitinib citrate over 8 hours, and high bioadhesion. Ex-vivo permeation studies using wistar rat skin confirmed significant drug release, and stability tests indicated the gel remained stable under accelerated conditions. The study concluded that the formulated gel is a promising treatment for alopecia areata.
