TLDR Topical minoxidil did not significantly regrow hair in alopecia areata patients after 3 months.
A study conducted by Vinod K Sharma and colleagues investigated the effects of 1% minoxidil solution applied topically on 10 patients with alopecia areata, including 4 with alopecia universalis, 4 with alopecia totalis, and 2 with extensive alopecia areata. The results showed that significant hair growth did not occur even after 3 months of therapy, indicating that 1% minoxidil was not effective for treating alopecia areata in this small sample size.
