TLDR FGF-5 promotes Cashmere goat hair growth by increasing keratin genes and reducing certain LncRNA and target genes.
The study investigated the role of long non-coding RNA (LncRNA) in hair growth of Liaoning Cashmere goats using RNA sequencing. It was found that fibroblast growth factor 5 (FGF-5) at a concentration of 10^-4 g/L for 72 hours (F4_72H) was optimal. FGF-5 suppressed LncRNA expression in skin cells, reduced the expression of target genes CBS and CTH, and increased the expression of keratin genes k26 and kap11.1. This suggests that FGF-5 may regulate Cashmere hair growth by promoting keratin and keratin-associated protein genes while suppressing LncRNA and target genes CBS and CTH.
