TLDR IGFBP-5 likely plays a key role in goat hair growth.
The study investigated the expression of insulin-like growth factor-binding proteins (IGFBP) in the skin of Inner Mongolia Cashmere goats across different stages of hair follicle development. Using Real-time PCR, the expression levels of IGFBP-1 to IGFBP-6 were measured, and melatonin was used to alter the hair growth cycle to assess the role of these genes. The findings revealed that both IGFBP-3 and IGFBP-5 were expressed during various stages of the hair follicle cycle, with IGFBP-5 showing a more consistent expression pattern. This suggested that IGFBP-5 might play a significant regulatory role in the hair follicle development of these goats.
