TLDR The BMP2 gene is more active in the early growth phase of Cashmere goat hair and may affect hair regeneration and textile production.
In 2009, researchers found that BMP2 gene expression in Inner Mongolia Cashmere goat hair follicles was significantly higher during the early anagen phase than in the late anagen phase, with a 27.8-fold increase in expression. BMP2 mRNA was present in both embryonic and adult hair follicles, with expression in primary hair follicles during late telogen and in secondary hair follicles during early anagen, but absent during late anagen. The study, which did not specify the number of animals tested, suggests BMP2's involvement in hair follicle regeneration and morphogenesis, which could impact breeding and the textile industry. The goat BMP2 amino acid sequence showed high similarity to that of other species, including sheep, cow, deer, and humans.
