TLDR Green tea compound EGCG may help hair growth by boosting cell activity.
This study investigates the effects of (−)-Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), a primary catechin in green tea, on dermal papilla cells (DPCs), which are crucial for hair follicle growth. EGCG was found to significantly promote the proliferation and migration of rabbit DPCs, enhance their antioxidant capacity, and regulate the expression of genes related to hair follicle growth and development. The study identified 21 differentially expressed genes, with VEGFA being notably upregulated, which plays a key role in promoting DPC proliferation. The findings suggest that EGCG could be a potential natural treatment for hair-related conditions by enhancing DPC viability through VEGFA induction.
