TLDR Methotrexate alone is as effective and safe as combining it with prednisolone for treating Lichen planopilaris.
The study compared the efficacy of oral methotrexate alone versus a combination of oral methotrexate and prednisolone in treating lichen planopilaris (LPP) in 28 patients. Both treatments significantly reduced the Lichen Planopilaris Activity Index (LPPAI) scores over six months, with the combination therapy group showing a more substantial improvement in symptoms such as itching, pain, and burning. Despite some adverse effects leading to withdrawal, both treatments were generally well-tolerated. The study concluded that combining methotrexate with prednisolone is more effective than methotrexate alone in managing LPP.
