Efficacy and Safety of Mycophenolate Mofetil for Lichen Planopilaris

    TLDR Mycophenolate mofetil was effective for most patients in treating scarring hair loss, but some had side effects.
    In a retrospective study from 2003 to 2007, mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) was found to be effective in 83% of the patients (10 out of 12) for treating lichen planopilaris (LPP), a condition associated with scarring hair loss. The study included 16 adult patients, but only 12 completed the treatment, with 5 achieving complete response and 5 showing partial response based on the Lichen Planopilaris Activity Index (LPPAI). The treatment was deemed effective with a significant decrease in LPPAI scores (P < .005). However, 4 patients withdrew due to adverse events, and the study's limitations included its retrospective nature and small sample size.
