TLDR A shampoo with cannabidiol can significantly reduce scalp inflammation and symptoms in people with mild to moderate psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis.
In 2020, a study involving 50 participants with mild to moderate scalp psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis found that a shampoo containing 0.075% broad-spectrum cannabidiol significantly reduced scalp inflammation and symptoms within 14 days of use. Severity scores for inflammation and scaling reduced from 2.3 ± 0.1, 2.6 ± 0.1, and 3.6 ± 0.1 to 0.5 ± 0.05, 0.8 ± 0.05, and 0.6 ± 0.05 respectively. Itching and burning scores also significantly reduced from 6.9 ± 0.1 and 4.5 ± 0.1 to 1.5 ± 0.05 and 1.0 ± 0.05 respectively. The shampoo was well-tolerated and satisfaction among subjects was high. This suggests that cannabidiol-containing shampoo could be a potential treatment for scalp conditions like psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis.

The user experienced hair shedding after using finasteride and topical minoxidil since August 2024, and briefly adding oral minoxidil in early 2025. They suspect the shedding might be due to the oral minoxidil, a bad batch of finasteride, or a normal shedding cycle, and are also experiencing an itchy scalp and acne.

FCE 28260 (PNU 156765), an under-explored 5α-reductase inhibitor, showcases promising results in research by Giudici et al., outperforming well-known treatments like Finasteride in reducing the conversion of testosterone to DHT. Its superior efficacy, demonstrated through lower IC50 values in both natural and human recombinant enzyme studies, suggests it could offer more effective management of DHT-related conditions. Additionally, its lower molecular weight hints at better potential for topical application, potentially offering advantages in treating conditions such as androgenic alopecia. Despite its potential, it has not advanced in development, possibly due to financial limitations, leaving its therapeutic prospects and side effect profile largely unexplored.
