TLDR Minoxidil solution applied on skin can effectively promote hair growth and increase hair thickness in male mice.
The study conducted 12 years ago aimed to assess the efficacy of topical minoxidil solution in promoting hair growth using a mouse model. 45 albino-Webster male mice were divided into two groups: a control group and a group treated with 5% topical minoxidil solution. After 21 days, significant hair growth was observed in the minoxidil-treated group compared to the control group. There was also a significant increase in the diameter of hair follicles, but no significant increase in the number of hair follicles. The study concluded that topical minoxidil solution can efficiently promote hair growth and increase the diameter of hair follicles. The concentration of certain hormones (17β-Estradiol, Free Testosterone, and Progesterone) were also measured after the treatment period, but no significant difference was found between the control and treatment groups.
