Effect of Pumpkin Seed Oil on Hair Growth in Men with Androgenetic Alopecia: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Trial
April 2014
in “Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine”
TLDR Pumpkin seed oil helps hair growth in men with hair loss.
This study investigated the effects of pumpkin seed oil (PSO) on hair growth in men with androgenetic alopecia (AGA). The study involved 76 subjects and was conducted over 24 weeks. The results showed that PSO supplementation had a positive anabolic effect on hair growth, possibly due to its 5-reductase inhibition effects in patients with mild to moderate male pattern hair loss. The study suggests that PSO could be considered a potential alternative treatment for AGA, but further studies are needed to confirm its efficacy and elucidate its mechanism of action.
