TLDR Increasing EGR1 levels makes hair root cells grow faster.
The study investigated the role of EGR1 in the proliferation of dermal papilla cells (DPCs), which are crucial for hair follicle growth. It was found that overexpression of EGR1 significantly increased DPC proliferation, while downregulation had the opposite effect. Proliferation markers PCNA and CDK2 were also upregulated with EGR1 overexpression. These findings suggest that EGR1 promotes DPC proliferation and may be closely associated with hair follicle development, providing a potential target for therapies aimed at treating hair loss and promoting hair growth.
