TLDR Early diagnosis and treatment can prevent or delay frontal fibrosing alopecia progression in postmenopausal women.
The study examined 14 postmenopausal women with frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) to assess their clinical and demographic characteristics. The patients, aged 52 to 73, exhibited symptoms such as frontal hairline traction and cicatricial alopecia, with 57% experiencing total eyebrow loss. Laboratory tests were normal, but comorbidities like thyroid disease, hypertension, and diabetes mellitus were noted. Treatments included systemic, intralesional, and topical steroids, topical minoxidil, hydroxychloroquine, acitretin, Vitamin E, itraconazole, and topical tacrolimus. The study concluded that early diagnosis and treatment could prevent or delay disease progression in middle-aged and elderly postmenopausal women with FFA.
