TLDR Familial frontal fibrosing alopecia affects premenopausal women too, and early diagnosis is important, but no proven medication exists yet.
This document is a case series of eight patients with familial frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) and a review of the literature. FFA is a type of alopecia that mainly affects postmenopausal women, but this case series found that it can also affect premenopausal women in families with a history of the disease. The patients were treated with a combination of nutricosmetics, topical treatments, and injections of steroids, hyaluronic acid, vitamins, and amino acids. Early diagnosis is important for effective treatment, but there is currently no proven medication for FFA. The authors call for more research to establish an adequate treatment for this chronic disease.
