TLDR Eclipta prostrata extract may help with memory and diabetes due to its antioxidant and enzyme-inhibiting properties.
The study examines a flavonoid-rich extract from Eclipta prostrata L. collected in Vietnam, identifying 36 secondary metabolites, including novel phenolic and flavonoid compounds. The extract shows moderate inhibition of α-amylase and α-glucosidase, high antioxidant, and anti-acetylcholinesterase activities, indicating potential benefits for diabetes management and cognitive enhancement. Optimal extraction conditions using pressurized liquid extraction were determined, yielding a high total flavonoid content. Key compounds like wedelolactone and epicatechin gallate demonstrated effective acetylcholinesterase inhibition, suggesting potential therapeutic applications for Alzheimer's and diabetes. The study underscores the extract's rich chemical composition and its potential as a source of beneficial active compounds.
