TLDR Platelet-Rich Plasma injections can effectively reduce hair thinning and loss, especially in women.
A prospective study involving 54 patients (35 men and 19 women) with androgenetic alopecia (AGA) was conducted to assess the efficacy and safety of autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections into the scalp. The study protocol consisted of three sessions of injections at 3-month intervals. Results showed an increase in hair thickness 1 month after the first PRP injection, and a reduction in hair loss after 3 months. The improvement was progressively evident until the 12th month, with differences in hair growth/production between women and men. The safety profile was satisfactory, and the study concluded that PRP injections are effective in reducing thinning of the scalp hair, with more efficacy observed in women.
