TLDR Platelet rich plasma is an effective treatment for alopecia areata.
In a study conducted in 2019 to evaluate the efficacy of platelet rich plasma (PRP) in treating alopecia areata, 20 patients (16 male and 4 female) were treated with PRP injections at the sites of hair loss every 28 days for a total of four sessions. The patients were monitored monthly for 6 months and then again at the end of one year. The results showed that 65% of the patients had a good response to the treatment, 15% had a moderate response, while 20% showed no response. At the end of the study, 10% of the patients experienced a relapse. The conclusion drawn from the study was that PRP is an effective treatment for alopecia areata.
