TLDR Hair loss in women links to inflammation around hair follicles.
This study found that apoptosis (cell death) in hair follicles of individuals with female pattern hair loss (FPHL) is associated with perifollicular microinflammation. The study involved 17 women with FPHL and five controls, and showed that inflammation can lead to apoptosis and play a role in the pathogenesis of follicle miniaturization. The study highlights the importance of understanding the role of inflammation in FPHL and the need for further research to confirm this mechanism.
