Effects of Antioxidant Activities and Hair Loss Prevention of Platycodon Grandiflorum Ethanol Extract

The study investigated the effects of ethanol extract from Platycodon grandiflorum on antioxidant activities and hair loss prevention. The extract demonstrated dose-dependent antioxidant activities by scavenging free radicals, which are known to damage hair follicle membranes. The study used human skin cells, RAW264.7 cells, and hair follicle dermal papilla cells to assess the extract's impact on skin regeneration, inflammation inhibition, and cell proliferation. The extract inhibited inflammation by reducing nitric oxide and prostaglandin E2 production and promoted cell proliferation at concentrations of 1, 10, and 100 μg/mL. Additionally, it inhibited dihydrotestosterone (DHT) production, a factor in hair loss, at various concentrations. These findings suggested that P. grandiflorum ethanol extract could be a valuable ingredient in hair loss prevention products.
