TLDR A 24-year-old man developed both alopecia areata universalis and type 1 diabetes at the same time, which is rare.
This document reports a rare case of a 24-year-old North Indian male who simultaneously developed alopecia areata universalis and type 1 diabetes mellitus. Both conditions are autoimmune diseases and are sometimes seen together as part of multiple endocrine autoimmune syndrome. The case highlights the autoimmune nature of both diseases, with lymphocyte infiltration observed in the islets for diabetes and in hair follicles for alopecia areata. While alopecia areata can complicate insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, and diabetes is relatively common in patients with alopecia areata, the simultaneous onset of both is unusual.
