TLDR Dupilumab and oral JAK inhibitors are effective for treating alopecia areata with atopic diseases.
The document reviews treatment strategies for alopecia areata (AA) in patients with atopic diseases (AD), identifying an "atopic type" of AA. It analyzes 78 publications and presents two clinical cases, highlighting effective treatments such as dupilumab, which showed positive effects on AA, atopic dermatitis (AtD), and bronchial asthma. Phototherapy and antihistamines, typically used for AtD, may also aid in hair restoration for AA. Oral JAK inhibitors like baricitinib, upadacitinib, and abrocitinib are recommended for systemic therapy in AA and AtD. Dupilumab is suggested for severe cases, including in pediatric patients. The treatment strategy should aim to reduce pharmacological burden and improve quality of life by addressing shared pathological mechanisms.
