TLDR Alfatradiol (0.025%) is an effective and safe treatment for hair loss in both women and men.
In a 2005 study, 233 patients with androgenetic alopecia were treated with Alfatradiol (0.025%) over 7.5 months, showing significant improvements in hair growth. Specifically, women saw an increase in anagen hair from 69% to 77%, and men from 56% to 65%. Over 80% of patients experienced stabilization or improvement in hair growth, with women more likely to rate the treatment as successful compared to men. The treatment was well-tolerated, with only 1.3% of patients reporting mild local adverse reactions. Although the study had a higher proportion of female participants, Alfatradiol was concluded to be an effective and safe treatment for AGA in both sexes, with its mechanism of action potentially involving 5α-reductase inhibition or aromatase activation.

The user has been using 5% minoxidil once daily and microneedling with a 1.5 mm dermaroller weekly for three months, considering increasing minoxidil usage but avoiding finasteride due to libido concerns. Another person suggests considering other treatments like RU58841, alfatradiol, topical finasteride, clascoterone, or saw palmetto since not using a DHT blocker could be less effective.

Switching from finasteride to dutasteride can worsen hair loss for some men due to increased testosterone levels. Topical treatments like RU58841 and Pyrilutamide are suggested to counteract these effects, but individual responses vary.
