TLDR TrichoScan accurately measures hair growth and loss, showing increased hair counts and thickness with treatment.
The TrichoScan was a method developed to objectively measure hair growth and loss by combining epiluminescence microscopy with automatic digital image analysis. It was capable of analyzing key biological parameters of hair growth, such as hair density, diameter, growth rate, and the anagen/telogen ratio, with high accuracy. The study demonstrated its application by comparing hair parameters in individuals with and without hair loss, including those treated with finasteride and minoxidil. Results showed a significant increase in hair counts and thickness after 3 and 6 months of treatment. The TrichoScan was advantageous for clinical studies, allowing for the comparison of treatments and the study of various hair conditions, with minimal additional equipment needed.
