- Does caffeine stimulate hair growth or only slow hair loss? Caffeine stimulates hair follicles in laboratory cultures, and one open-label trial in 210 men found a 0.2% caffeine topical non-inferior to minoxidil 5% on an anagen-ratio endpoint; there is no placebo-controlled evidence that it regrows hair, and none at all in alopecia areata or telogen effluvium.
- Alfatradiol: Can it help if my hair loss is linked to DHT? The one randomised trial of topical alfatradiol — in 103 women — found hair thickness and density essentially unchanged after six months, while minoxidil improved both; its authors credited alfatradiol with slowing hair loss rather than regrowing hair. Laboratory work supports a local effect on follicular DHT, but no controlled trial in men appears to have been published.
