TLDR Treatment type and patch size affect hair regrowth patterns in alopecia areata.
This study investigated the relationship between hair regrowth patterns in alopecia areata (AA) patches, classified by the DIMT system (diffuse, irregular, marginal, targetoid), and factors such as treatment modality and patch size. A retrospective analysis of 152 AA patches from 51 patients revealed significant associations: diffuse patterns were more common in patches ≤2 cm, irregular patterns were linked to triamcinolone acetonide intralesional injections, marginal patterns were associated with systemic and topical corticosteroids, and targetoid patterns were more frequent in patches >2 cm. The study concludes that both treatment modality and patch size significantly influence hair regrowth patterns in AA.
