Alopecia Areata of Eyelashes: Regrowth After Injecting Triamcinolone Into the Eyebrow Area

TLDR Injecting triamcinolone into the eyebrow area may help eyelash regrowth in alopecia areata patients.
The document reports on two cases of patients with alopecia areata of the eyelashes who experienced regrowth of eyelashes after receiving injections of triamcinolone into the eyebrow area. The first patient, a 32-year-old female with a history of alopecia areata, had not responded to topical corticosteroids and latanoprost but showed slow regrowth of eyebrows and eyelashes four weeks after the first injection session of triamcinolone acetonide suspension. No relapse was observed during a 5-month follow-up. The second patient, a 23-year-old female with recalcitrant scalp alopecia areata and a history of sparse eyebrows and loss of eyelashes, exhibited almost full regrowth of eyelashes six weeks after treatment with triamcinolone injections into the eyebrow area. Systemic cyclosporine A therapy was also introduced for her scalp alopecia areata, and no relapse was noted over a 12-week observation period. These cases suggest that intralesional triamcinolone injections into the eyebrow area may promote eyelash regrowth in patients with alopecia areata.
