research Clinical, Ultrasound, and Hormonal Markers of Androgenicity in Acne Vulgaris
Acne severity is linked to higher levels of certain androgenic hormones, even when those levels are within the normal range.
research The Role of Androgen Therapy
Androgens, male hormones, play a role in both men and women's health, and testosterone therapy can help women with low levels, but it's not suitable for pregnant or lactating women, or those with certain conditions.

Low iron levels are linked to hair loss in adult women.
research Crohn's Ileocolitis Presenting as Chronic Diffuse Hair Loss
Crohn's disease can cause hair loss before other symptoms appear.
research Serum C-19 Steroid Sulphates in Females with Clinical Hyperandrogenism
Women with hyperandrogenism have higher androgen levels and lower SHBG, which may contribute to conditions like excessive hair growth and early puberty.

research Thallium Poisoning: Clinical Observations Through Two Outbreaks in Basrah
Thallium poisoning can cause hair loss, skin rashes, and nerve damage, and can be fatal if not correctly diagnosed and treated.
research Analysis of Steroids and Binding Proteins in the Blood of Women with Androgenetic Alopecia
Women with androgenetic alopecia have normal levels of most blood steroids and binding proteins, but higher dehydroepiandrosterone. Some also have low "sex hormone-binding globulin" and "corticosteroide-binding globulin" capacity, and high "free androgen index" and "free cortisol index". Diane treatment can normalize these levels and improve hair conditions.

research The Effect of an Oral Contraceptive Containing Ethinylestradiol and Desogestrel on Hair Growth and Hormonal Parameters of Hirsute Women
A study involving 22 hirsute women treated with a combination of 0.030 mg of ethinylestradiol and 0.150 mg of desogestrel (EE-DG) for 6 or 12 months showed a decrease in hair growth in 17 patients after 6 months. The treatment led to a significant reduction in the testosterone/sex hormone binding globulin (T/SHBG) ratio and serum dehydroepiandrosterone sulphate (DHEAS) levels, with a correlation between changes in hirsutism and the T/SHBG ratio. The study suggested that the therapeutic effect of EE-DG was due to combined changes in hormone levels, although the reduction in hair growth was slow, particularly on the face. Differences in clinical response were linked to variations in the T/SHBG ratio and DHEAS changes.
