derives nutrients from another living plant, called the host

A parasitic plant is a type of plant that derives some or all of its nutritional requirements from another living plant, known as the host. These plants attach themselves to the host using specialized structures called haustoria, which penetrate the host's tissues to access water and nutrients. Examples include mistletoe and dodder.
