September 2022 A 60-year-old patient developed drug-induced lupus erythematosus (DIL) after receiving a combination of monoclonal antibodies against the SARS-CoV-2 surface S-protein. Initially diagnosed with seronegative rheumatoid arthritis, the patient experienced recurring arthritis and was treated with various medications. After mild COVID-19 and subsequent monoclonal antibody therapy, the patient developed a urticaria-like rash and arthritis. Laboratory tests indicated systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), but the diagnosis was considered DIL due to the timing of symptoms and lack of visceral organ involvement. Treatment led to a reduction in symptoms. This case highlights the challenge of distinguishing DIL from SLE and the need for careful patient monitoring.

March 2022 in “PubMed” Platelet-rich plasma can help treat scarring hair loss caused by Discoid Lupus Erythematosus.
Systemic lupus erythematosus is diagnosed earlier in males than females.
Hair chemical use was common among females with SLE and did not differ significantly from controls, showing no association with the development of SLE. However, prior use of hair chemicals, especially chemical hair straighteners, was significantly linked to an increased risk of cutaneous manifestations such as malar rash, photosensitivity, and alopecia. Further research is needed to explore specific chemicals and usage patterns as potential triggers for SLE manifestations.
March 2024 in “Clinical, cosmetic and investigational dermatology” Tofacitinib successfully treated vitiligo in a patient with lupus without side effects.
March 2024 in “Poster presentations” A 43-year-old female presented with symptoms including high-grade fever, painful swallowing, malar rash, pruritic maculopapular rash, and hair loss, and was diagnosed with both systemic erythematous lupus (SLE) and Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD). Laboratory findings showed anemia, leucopenia, and positive ANA and ds-DNA, while imaging and biopsy confirmed KFD. Treatment with glucocorticoids and hydroxychloroquine led to clinical improvement. KFD is a benign, self-limited disorder often linked to autoimmune responses, and its diagnosis is confirmed through lymph node biopsy and immunological tests.
February 2024 in “Journal of dermatology” CGF therapy may help hair regrowth and improve scars in DLE patients.
December 2023 in “Intisari Sains Medis” Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) and Diabetes Mellitus (DM) can coexist, presenting a complex clinical picture that requires careful evaluation. A case of a 14-year-old female with symptoms of both SLE and DM, including joint pain, hair loss, blurred vision, and significant weight loss, highlights the overlapping features of these diseases. Laboratory results showed hyperglycemia, positive antinuclear antibodies, and dyslipidemia, among other findings. The study concludes that the coexistence of SLE and DM is rare and necessitates thorough diagnostic and prognostic assessments.

October 2023 in “JAAD Case Reports” A woman with lupus experienced hair regrowth after treatment, but hair transplantation is not advised for her condition.
August 2023 in “Anales de la Facultad de Ciencias Médicas” The patient with lupus and hair loss improved with oral and topical minoxidil.
The study examined the relationship between the 2019 EULAR/ACR classification criteria and organ damage in 562 patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Patients were divided into two groups based on their EULAR/ACR scores: group 1 (scores ≥20) and group 2 (scores 10–19). Group 1 exhibited a higher prevalence of symptoms such as fever, alopecia, and renal disease, and had significantly higher organ damage scores, particularly in the renal, cardiovascular, dermatological, and gonadal domains. The renal domain of the EULAR/ACR criteria showed the strongest correlation with renal damage. The findings suggest that the EULAR/ACR criteria not only aid in disease classification but also have potential utility in predicting organ damage in SLE patients.
A 29-year-old woman was diagnosed with ANA-negative Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) presenting with segmental hyalinizing vasculitis and valvular heart disease. Despite the absence of antinuclear antibodies, her symptoms and clinical findings, including painful skin ulcers, joint pain, fever, and heart issues, met the criteria for SLE. Treatment with hydroxychloroquine, methylprednisolone, and desoximethasone cream led to significant clinical improvement and complete resolution of skin ulcers after 6 months, highlighting the importance of early recognition and aggressive therapy in this rare SLE subset.
This case report describes a 19-year-old woman who presented with psychosis and seizures as early manifestations of neuropsychiatric systemic lupus erythematosus (NPSLE). She exhibited symptoms such as visual and auditory hallucinations, fever, malar rash, hair loss, and arthritis. Laboratory tests revealed anemia, lymphopenia, increased CRP, positive immunoserological results, and decreased C3 and C4 complement levels. Despite normal brain MSCT findings, she was diagnosed with SLE with neuropsychiatric manifestations based on the SLICC criteria. The patient showed significant improvement with a combination of high-dose corticosteroids, immunosuppressants, and antidepressants. The report emphasizes that NPSLE treatment is tailored to individual symptoms, similar to general SLE management.

May 2023 in “Karnataka Pediatric Journal” Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a rare autoimmune disease in children, and acute pancreatitis as its initial manifestation is even more uncommon. An 8-year-old girl presented with abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, fever, alopecia, oral ulceration, and glossitis. Elevated serum amylase and lipase levels indicated acute pancreatitis, while other tests confirmed SLE. Treatment with glucocorticoids and immunosuppressive therapy significantly improved her condition, and she is now stable with regular follow-ups.
