    GlossaryCoagulase-negative staphylococci

bacteria on skin that don't produce coagulase enzyme

Coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) are a group of bacteria commonly found on human skin and mucous membranes. Unlike their more notorious relative, Staphylococcus aureus, they do not produce the enzyme coagulase, which means they are generally less virulent. However, CoNS can still cause infections, particularly in people with weakened immune systems or those with implanted medical devices.
