TLDR The study found that the protein Dkk4 helps regulate hair growth by controlling Wnt signaling in mice.
The study investigated the role of the Wnt inhibitor Dickkopf 4 (Dkk4) in ectodermal appendage morphogenesis, particularly hair follicle (HF) development. Researchers found that Dkk4 is induced by canonical Wnt signaling and is transiently expressed during the pre-placode stage of appendage formation, suggesting a negative feedback mechanism to regulate HF patterning. Experimental validation showed that Dkk4 is a target of Wnt signaling, with LEF1/β-catenin complexes binding to its promoter. The study proposed that Dkk4 might also facilitate a switch from canonical to non-canonical Wnt signaling, influencing cell movements during HF morphogenesis.

community A concise, easy-to-understand post on Androgenic Alopecia theory and its practical applications

      in Research/Science  92 upvotes 2 years ago
The mechanism of Androgenic Alopecia and practical applications of treatments like Minoxidil, Finasteride, RU58841, dermarolling, scalp massages, anti-fungals, progesterone, estrogen, PPAR-γ activators, reducing oxidative stress, and scalp exercises. It explains why DHT is important in AA and how other factors might be involved such as hypoxia, increased DKK-1 expression, morphological changes to the scalp, skull growth during childhood/puberty, and blood flow.

community Fats on your Head to Stop Hair Loss?

The conversation discusses the potential of long-chain unsaturated fatty acids, like oleic and linoleic acid, as an additional treatment for hair loss, which may inhibit the enzyme responsible for converting testosterone to DHT and promote hair growth. Users humorously suggest using oils topically and discuss other hair loss treatments, but the main focus is on the science behind fatty acids and their role in hair health.

The conversation is about using vitamin C and Magnesium L-Threonate for hair growth by reducing DHT binding to dermal papilla cells. The original post about vitamin C's pH levels and sebum control was possibly removed by a moderator.
