TLDR Vitamin D deficiency is common in children with and without alopecia areata, and more research is needed.
The study examined the relationship between serum Vitamin D levels and pediatric alopecia areata (AA) by comparing 40 AA cases with 30 healthy controls. It found that 72.5% of AA cases and 90% of controls were Vitamin D deficient or insufficient, with no significant difference in Vitamin D levels between the groups (P = 0.080). There was also no significant correlation between Vitamin D levels and AA severity. Despite these results, the study highlights the prevalence of Vitamin D deficiency among children in India and suggests that screening and supplementation could aid in AA treatment. The authors call for larger studies to further investigate Vitamin D's role in AA.
