TLDR People with Alopecia Areata have lower vitamin D levels.
The study investigated the relationship between vitamin D concentrations and Alopecia Areata (AA), an autoimmune disease affecting hair follicles. It involved 42 patients with AA and 42 healthy controls, measuring their serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D and 1,25 dihydroxyvitamin D3 using the ELISA method. Results indicated that both forms of vitamin D were significantly lower in AA patients compared to the control group (p<0.001). This suggested that vitamin D deficiency might play a role in the development of AA.
