TLDR Vitamin D is important for skin health and can affect various skin diseases.
The document "Vitamina D y la piel. Una revisión para dermatólogos" from May 2019 discussed the role of Vitamin D in dermatology. Vitamin D can be obtained through diet or sun exposure, with daily requirements varying by age. Deficiency risks include obesity, smoking, insufficient sun exposure, and age. Vitamin D has been shown to have antiproliferative properties, such as inhibiting angiogenesis and the metastatic capacity of some neoplasms, participating in DNA repair, and even the relationship between certain mutations in the vitamin D receptor and cancer. It has been implicated in the pathogenesis and treatment of a variety of dermatological diseases. Chronic use of systemic corticosteroids can lead to complications like osteoporosis, and Vitamin D is fundamental in dermatology, not only because its synthesis occurs in the skin, but also due to its multiple actions reflected in different diseases where it seems to be involved.
