TLDR TRPV3 in skin cells causes inflammation and cell death.
The study demonstrated that TRPV3, a transient receptor potential ion channel, was expressed in human skin and cultured epidermal keratinocytes. Activation of TRPV3 functioned as a Ca2+-permeable ion channel, which suppressed keratinocyte proliferation and induced cell death. Additionally, TRPV3 stimulation triggered a strong proinflammatory response via the NF-κB pathway. These findings suggested that TRPV3 played a significant role in cutaneous inflammatory processes and could be linked to conditions such as Olmsted syndrome, characterized by symptoms like alopecia and hyperkeratosis.
