TLDR The TRPV3 gene mutation affects hair growth by keeping mice in the growth phase longer, which could help treat hair loss.
The 2007 study explored the impact of a TRPV3 gene mutation on hair growth in DS-Nh mice, a model for human atopic dermatitis. The mutation resulted in an increased thermal response and a reduction in anagen-related keratin-associated protein gene expression. Histological analysis revealed that DS-Nh mice maintained the anagen phase of hair growth, while DS mice entered the telogen phase at 21 days old. The findings suggest that TRPV3 plays a crucial role in hair development and could be a potential target for treating alopecia related to high fever, skin inflammation, or androgen effects. The exact number of mice used in the study was not provided.
