in “Nutrients”
TLDR
Personalized diets, like the Mediterranean Diet and low carb diets, can help manage PCOS symptoms in obese women, and probiotics may enhance weight loss and improve metabolic health. More research is needed to find the best diet strategies.
The review discusses the role of individually tailored diets in managing Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) in obese women. It emphasizes the importance of diet and lifestyle modifications, including the Mediterranean Diet, low/very low carbohydrate diets, low saturated fat diets, and low Glycemic Index (GI) diets, in managing PCOS symptoms and associated metabolic risks. The review also highlights the potential benefits of probiotics/synbiotic supplementation in enhancing weight loss and positively affecting metabolic and inflammatory factors by improving the intestinal microbiome. However, it concludes that more research is needed to establish the most effective dietary strategies for managing PCOS in obese women.
