TLDR Stem cells show promise for treating skin conditions and aiding healing.
Stem cells in dermatology were recognized for their ability to self-renew and differentiate into specialized cells, with various niches identified in the skin, including interfollicular, follicular, mesenchymal, and melanocyte stem cells. Although treatment of skin diseases with stem cells was still experimental, research focused on their potential in treating conditions like dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa, systemic lupus erythematosus, vitiligo, various types of alopecia, ulcers, and slow-healing wounds. Their flexibility and differentiation capabilities offered promising possibilities for regenerative medicine.
