TLDR The document concludes that we need more research to understand Telogen Effluvium and find effective treatments.
The document from March 2021 reviewed Telogen Effluvium (TE), a prevalent form of non-scarring hair loss often triggered by physiological stressors like childbirth or sudden weight loss. Despite a high remission rate, TE can significantly affect individuals' quality of life due to sudden, excessive hair loss. The mechanisms by which physiological stress impacts the human hair cycle were unknown at the time, and there were no targeted treatments for TE. The document stressed the need for more rigorous basic science and translational studies to create effective treatments for TE patients. It also indicated that treatments for other hair loss forms, such as Minoxidil and anti-androgen medication, might not be suitable for certain TE patient subsets.
