Treatment of Persistent Alopecia Areata with Sulfasalazine

    TLDR Sulfasalazine may help treat persistent alopecia areata.
    The study assessed the efficacy of sulfasalazine in treating 39 patients with persistent alopecia areata unresponsive to standard therapies. Over 6 months, patients received 3 g of oral sulfasalazine daily. Results showed that 10 patients (25.6%) had a good response, 12 patients (30.7%) had a moderate response, and 17 patients (43.5%) had a poor or no response. The study concluded that sulfasalazine could be an alternative treatment for persistent alopecia areata.
