TLDR Sulfasalazine may help treat persistent alopecia areata.
The study assessed the efficacy of sulfasalazine in treating 39 patients with persistent alopecia areata unresponsive to standard therapies. Over 6 months, patients received 3 g of oral sulfasalazine daily. Results showed that 10 patients (25.6%) had a good response, 12 patients (30.7%) had a moderate response, and 17 patients (43.5%) had a poor or no response. The study concluded that sulfasalazine could be an alternative treatment for persistent alopecia areata.
