TLDR Sulfasalazine may help regrow hair in severe alopecia areata cases.
The study explored the use of sulfasalazine, an immunomodulatory drug, for treating severe alopecia areata. It was observed that 23% of patients experienced cosmetically acceptable hair regrowth. Given its favorable safety profile, sulfasalazine was suggested as a potential systemic treatment for severe cases of alopecia areata.
