Successful Deslorelin Implant Treatment in a Neutered Female Pomeranian Dog with Alopecia X

    Patrícia Coimbra, Aline Bomfim Vieira
A neutered female Pomeranian dog with alopecia X, a noninflammatory hair cycle arrest disorder, was successfully treated with a 4.7 mg deslorelin acetate implant after failing to respond to melatonin. This case is significant as it is the first scientific report of such treatment in a female dog, despite previous literature discouraging the use of GnRH analogs in females. The treatment resulted in profuse hair regrowth after 9 months and was deemed uncomplicated, cost-effective, and safe. This finding suggests a potential new treatment avenue for female dogs with alopecia X.
