TLDR Higher STAT3 levels are found in hair loss areas, but not linked to hair loss severity.
This study investigated the expression of Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription-3 (STAT3) in patients with androgenetic alopecia. The research included 25 patients and found that scalp tissue affected by androgenetic alopecia exhibited significantly higher levels of STAT3 gene expression compared to unaffected areas (p < 0.001). However, there was no significant correlation between STAT3 expression levels and the severity of hair loss (p = 0.660). The study suggests an upregulation of STAT3 in androgenetic alopecia and highlights the need for further research to explore the role of the JAK-STAT pathway in the condition's pathogenesis. The study's limitations include its small sample size.
