TLDR PLA particles release their contents differently based on the type of fluorochrome used.
The study confirmed that polylactic acid (PLA) particles accumulated in hair follicles (HFs) after topical application, formed aggregates, and released incorporated substances. The stability of PLA particles, fluorochrome diffusion kinetics, and clearance were influenced by the lipophilicity of the incorporated fluorochromes. Despite being stable in aqueous dispersion, PLA particles lost their particulate morphology upon contact with the skin surface. This indicated that the physicochemical nature of the incorporated substances affected the stability and release behavior of PLA particles on the skin.
