TLDR Storing PRP at -80 °C keeps growth factors stable for at least 6 months.
This study investigated the long-term stability of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) stored at -80 °C, using samples from 50 healthy volunteers. It was found that the platelet count in both fresh and frozen PRP samples was significantly higher than in whole blood. Importantly, there was no significant difference in the concentrations of PDGF-BB, bFGF, VEGF, and PF-4 between fresh and frozen samples. However, the concentrations of EGF and IGF were significantly higher in the frozen PRP group compared to the fresh PRP group. The study concludes that storing PRP at -80 °C is suitable for maintaining growth factor concentrations for at least 6 months.
