TLDR Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) may improve healing in chronic wounds and vitiligo and promote hair regrowth, but more research is needed.
This systematic review and meta-analysis of 27 studies evaluated the effectiveness and safety of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in treating chronic wounds, vitiligo, and promoting hair regrowth. The results showed that PRP significantly improved complete wound healing in chronic diabetic ulcers, reduced the time for wound healing, and improved the epithelialized area in venous ulcers. In vitiligo patients, PRP was associated with a significantly greater degree of improvement and repigmentation. The study also found promising results for hair regrowth, with a mean increase of 33.6 hairs in the target area and a mean increase in total hair density of 45.9 hairs per cm2. The source of PRP and the preparation method were found to significantly affect the proportion of complete wound healing. The study concluded that PRP could be a promising therapeutic adjunct or alternative treatment for chronic wounds, vitiligo, and hair regrowth, but more large-scale, high-quality randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm these findings.
