TLDR Chitosan-coated spironolactone nano carriers effectively treat acne without side effects.
This study developed a chitosan-coated nano lipid carrier (NLC) for delivering spironolactone (SPN) to treat acne vulgaris. By optimizing the Hydrophilic-Lipophilic Balance (HLB) values, the researchers achieved a formulation with a particle diameter of 238.4 nm and an encapsulation efficiency of 79.88%. The chitosan coating enhanced the NLC's properties, leading to sustained release and effective treatment of mild to moderate acne in a double-blind clinical trial. The trial showed significant improvement in healing and lesion reduction after 8 weeks without adverse effects, suggesting that chitosan-coated SPN-NLCs are promising for targeted acne treatment.
