TLDR Sonic hedgehog helps hair follicle stem cells grow and can effectively regenerate hair follicles.
The research involved 20 female alopecia patients aged 40-50 years old and focused on the effect of Sonic hedgehog (Shh) on hair follicle stem cells (HFSCs). The study found that Shh can be successfully introduced into HFSCs using a lentivirus, leading to a significant increase in the proliferation activity of these cells. The overexpression of Shh resulted in continuous and stable secretion and expression of Shh, which in turn promoted hair follicle regeneration. The conclusion of the study is that the combination of stem cells and Shh can effectively stimulate hair follicle regeneration.
